Welcome to Year 1
We are looking forward to taking part in P.E. on Monday afternoon and Wednesday morning. If there are any changes to this we will let you know. Please make sure your child's P.E. kit is in school. All items of clothing must be NAMED.
Year 1 Clubs
Monday (pm) - Dodgeball, Wednesday (am) Gymnastics , Wednesday (pm) Tennis, Thursday (pm)- Football
Please make sure we know which activity, your child will be taking part in.
May we remind you that they will need separate kit for any club, which they will need to bring on the day.
READING IN YEAR 1
In Year 1 we aim to hear your child read twice a week. They will read once in a guided group and once individually and we will write in your child's reading diary each time they are heard read so that you know how well they are doing.
Your child will bring home the two books they read in school to practise at home and we would really appreciate it if you could write in their reading diary when you read with your child. Regular reading practise really does make a huge difference to the progress your child will make in this area.
Spring Term - 2nd Half
We are looking forward to another busy half term.
Our theme this half term will be 'growing plants'. We are going to be learning about the life cycle of different plants and we will be growing our own vegetables and sunflowers.
Our music teacher Gareth will be teaching us teach us all sorts of new songs about plants and also how to accompany our songs using instruments.
Our P.E. times have changed this half term. We will have P.E. on Monday afternoon, and also on Wednesday morning. It will be important to have our P.E. kit in school for these days. We still need to wear a white top, black shorts and pumps and all of these must have our names in.
As part of our Design Technology work this half term we will learn how to make a moving picture. We hope that we can use our moving pictures to create Easter cards for us to bring home. We will learn about the Christian celebration of Easter in our Religious Education work.
There will be more exciting things happening too! Look out for details later in the term.
