As part of our celebrations for Harvest Festival the Reception children learned about different kinds of bread. They had the opportunity to try pumpernickel, brioche, baguette and wholemeal bread. Some of the breads got the thumbs up and some didn’t! The children used lots of interesting words to describe the breads, such as yummy, fluffy, squishy and tasty!
The School Nurses visited Reception today. We watched a DVD and learned about germs! We practised washing our hands and did some experiments to learn how germs can quickly spread. The balloon popped (sneeze) and the glittery stars (germs) flew everywhere!
The children all took part in a very active maths activity called ‘Shape Shopping’. The children were in different shape teams. Each team searched for their shapes. Then each team set up their shape shops. The hard part came when every team had a shopping list where they had to tick off each shape they ‘bought’.
This week Reception tried a tricky task to test out their teamwork. We tried to pass the hoop around the circle without letting go of hands, it was very tricky but the children were tremendous!
As part of learning about how we are the same and how we are different, the children have been comparing their heights and the size of different parts of the body. They have also used cubes for measuring.
